No rhinoplasty I'm broke, I'm willing to take the pain, I know how to stop a nose bleed, hi I'm Alexander and I'm 16yrs old and my nose I really holding me back and it's depressing, I was wondering if I can reduce my nasal hump by medium high smacks with a hammer to reduce it, I'm tired of my stupid roman boss and I just want my life to be better, please doctors what are some advice or precautions? Plz no "it's going to make it worse" because I'm still going to do it, Plz Doctors and Thanks!!!!!
Answer: Can I reduce my nasal hump by breaking my nasal bone? There are many reasons detailed by my colleagues why this is a bad idea. Don't do it. If you feel that your nose is really holding you back and causing such severe depression you would benefit from speaking with a professional about this. Neither smashing your nose with a hammer nor undergoing rhinoplasty will help you with these issues. When you're in a better place, you can consider a rhinoplasty to reduce the bump and potentially make other changes to your nose if you so desire.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Just say no Your plan would likely worsen your appearance, make your breathing worse and make repairing/changing it in the future much more difficult. I can not recommend strongly enough against doing this.

Answer: #Rhinoplasty, No Surgery AlexGr8,Thank you for your question and two pictures. I don't recommend that you follow through with what you suggest. That falls into the category of bad ideas...a very bad idea. You are only 16, so no one is going to give you advice or tell you what to do over the Internet. You will need parental consent. I might be the only one that responds to your question.I will give you some educated information. Take it, or leave it. Here it is.If you can't afford a rhinoplasty and you don't like the hump, you could consider getting a filler, like Juvederm, injected into the nasal radix, which is the nasal bridge or low area just above the hump. This camouflages the hump for about a year. It's a lot cheaper than rhinoplasty surgery. Here is some more wisdom, which you can let soak in. If you have problems in your life and think your life is miserable, getting your nose fixed isn't likely to make anything that much better. Plastic Surgery doesn't fix life's problems and is not a miraculous solution for anything. Also, if you try to do something to your nose yourself, then your problems will likely get worse, not better, because you will still have all your current problems plus likely complications of self-mutilation. This is not a good place to be.To be sure what might help you, see two or more board-certified plastic surgeons in your area for a full and complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have any type of procedure or intervention.I also recommend that you make an appointment to see your regular doctor first.I hope this helps. Good Luck.
