Botox masseter muscle bulge problem.

You may already be experiencing changes in your masseter from the Botox injection. It may take 2 weeks to see the full effects and for the masseter to smooth. If the bulging persists after 2 weeks schedule a follow up appointment with your injector to assess treatment going forward. You may require additional Botox to this area if the muscle is still contracting. If you are concerned or have further questions contact your injector and express your concerns. All the Best.    

It sounds like you have a hematoma, which is a collection of blood, in the muscle or soft tissue adjacent to the muscle.  This can happen if the needle caused bleeding in the deep tissue.  Hematomas usually don't need any treatment, but occasionally need to be evacuated if large.  The lump will typically resolve over the course of a few weeks with conservative care. 

The complication from any injection can be bruising which is indicative of bleeding under the skin. Botox injections are not immune to this side effect and when the injection is deep in the muscle, like those for masseter hypertrophy they can result in bleeding in the muscle or intra-muscular hematoma. This will resolve and can be lessened with topical ice packs held on the areas of injection for 10 minutes every 4 hours for 48 hours. Proper injection technique with small needles and cooling immediately before and after the injection do help to limit localized bruising.

Sounds like you may have a hematoma or a deep bruise after the injections into your masseter muscle. This should get better with time. Sometimes applying ice intermittently can help with any discomfort. I suggest you schedule a follow-up appointment with your injector so that he/she can evaluate the issue in person.

Botox takes 4-5 days to start working and around 7 days for maximum effect.  1 day after the injection in the masseters, you should not see much of a difference.  I would call you injector and have an evaluation.  

I agree with the majority of the comments that other doctors have given. You need to give the area 1 to 2 weeks for the swelling to go down. Applying ice can help alleviate the swelling faster. If the area is still swollen after a few weeks I would recommend having a follow up with your physician.

You can have bruising in the skin or hematoma more likely in the masseter muscle. I recommend topical heat and also Bromelain to help. You can purchase on the link below or a vitamin store. 

Thanks for sharing your question.  It is still early after treatment and you are likely having local swelling from the injection and the botox may not have taken effect yet.  Give it 7-10 and I suspect you will be doing well.  Botox injection near the jawline is a great treatment and can add nice and subtle refinement.Steven Camp MD

Speaking from personal experience... give it at least 1 week.  The product has not taken full effect yet.  What you are experiencing is normal.  Hope this helps.
