The answer is it depends on exactly what is necessary in performing an alar base reduction (i.e. is it to narrow the inter-alar distance, reduce nostril flare,  nostril size, or is it a combination)  Usually, there is some change in the shape of the nostrils, especially if tip work is done.  Best wishes.
