Fat behind eye to bring eye forward?

Question

An oculoplastic surgeon said one of my eyes was sunk in my head more than the other eye. He said he could put fat behind my eye to bring the eye more forward and not look sunk. Is this a good idea?

This is a technique that is not commonly performed. It is being done by a handful of surgeons who are willing to accept the risks associated with injecting fat (or filler for that matter) behind the eye. I would ask your surgeon to review every possible complication from that procedure as part of the informed consent process before moving forward. There are implants that can be used for a similar effect, and this might be worth a conversation with him/her as well.

Injecting fat or filler behind the eyeball is risky and not predictable. Another option is careful surgical implant placement. Need consultation to determine if you are a candidate. See following video.

This is called fat grafting into the orbital socket, and some oculoplastic surgeons have experience with it.
