Dear doctors, I have tried fat grafting but wasn't satisfied by the result I am now thinking of having an infraorbital rim implant. My questions are : 1 - Can infraorbital rim implants elevate/retract droopy lower eyelid and reduce scleral show ? 2 - Can infraorbital rim implants help with under eyes dark circles? 3 - Can infraorbital rim implants help fixing bulging/buggy eyes appearance ?
Answer: Infraorbital rim implant Infraorbital rim implants can help with all the issues you describe, either directly or indirectly, with possible adjunctive procedures. There are limitations to its effect. It is designed for patients with under eye bony deficiency, not just soft tissue hollowness. The technique of placement of implant and type of implant are critical too. It is best placed using transconjunctival (inside eyelid) approach. Solid silicone implant is safest. Depending on the size and position of the implant, it can also add volume to the cheeks if desired.

Answer: Utility of rim implants Essentially, rim implants alone will not alter lower lid position alone. however, they can be very helpful in support of other techniques which are more effective if the rim projection is increased. With regard to dark circles, it is unlikely that they will help. This usually requires blepharoplasty to resolve appropriately.

Answer: Lower eyelids Infraorbital rim implants are used to address the lack of projection, or in other words, increase the projection of the soft tissue in the area. These implants are not used to reduce scleral show (ectropion), lower eyelid puffiness or dark circles. Undergoing any surgical procedure requires careful attention to detail and consideration for different options. Consider obtaining several opinions before moving forward with any given procedure. And always trust your face to a board-certified facial plastic surgeon or board-certified plastic surgeon.

Answer: Infraorbital Rim Implants Unless combined with other eyelid procedures, infraorbital rim implants will not elevate the lower eyelids. They do a good job of augmenting undereye hollows which may help some with the dark circles.

Answer: Infraorbital rim implants Hi and thanks for your question. Infraorbital rim implants can do a lot for your facial aesthetics. To answer your questions: 1) rim implants can help support the lower lid and help scleral show, but only a little bit. It all depends on the amount of lid laxity you have and if you want to address that, you should get a procedure that will directly address it, something like a spacer graft or a lid tightening procedure, depending on your case. 2) rim implants can help with dark circles depending on what you are starting with. Dark circles can be caused by a the contour and shadowing of your lid/cheek junction and/or really thin skin and being able to see the dark/purple muscle through the skin. Rim implants may help with the shadowing but won't help with the thin skin. 3) rim implants can help with the buggy eye look because it helps the globe/rim relationship and makes it more aesthetically appealing. By bringing the rim forward, it makes the globe (eyeball) look more set back. Hope this helps!
