I have been successfully treating xanthelasmas around the eyes for over three decades with electrocautery, which is a simple, effective, and inexpensive modality to use for this purpose anywhere in the world. I have found this method preferable to the use of strong acids, such as BCA, which have been recommended, and certainly at least as efficient and certainly more cost-effective as compared to ablative laser therapy or surgery with stitches. Following local anesthesia to numb the sites, the electrocautery probe is simply touched to the skin overlying the xanthelasma and the heat generated leads to immediate shrinkage of the fat deposit and a wound which results in minimal scarring or discoloration. In experienced hands, the procedure should take no more than about five minutes to perform. Make sure, however, that you consult with a board certified aesthetic physician. Best of luck to you.
