Mommy makeover and BBL. Should I get it all at once, or wait?

Question

I will be getting a mommy makeover December. I just decided that I want a BBL as well (why not?). Should I wait so that both sides of my body aren't healing at the same time? Or can it be done all at once? Thanks in advance for all of your advice. I'd like to see some of your work!!

I perform the tummy tuck and liposuction/BBL combination frequently, because many of my patients only want to go through surgery and recovery one time. Recovery can be challenging and uncomfortable. However, there are creative ways to manage the recovery position. Pillows can be placed under the lower back and the posterior thighs and patients can sleep on the back. A cushion with a hole cut out can perform a similar role. There is also a mattress with a hole into which you can place your buttocks and sleep on your back. 
You could stage the procedures and have the liposuction and BBL performed first; six months later have the TT.

Hi, thanks for your question. I definitely recommend having your BBL done once you recover from your Mommy Makeover surgery. The Mommy Makeover is already a pretty involved surgery that will take several hours and will have an extensive recovery period. If you add the BBL the recovery will be very difficult as you'll have to stay off your bum for at least two weeks, meaning you won't be able to lie flat on your back, and with the tummy tuck you won't be able to lie on your stomach, making rest and recovery overall very tough. Typically, it's preferable to keep combined surgeries to one side of your body for these reasons even though it is surgically possible to add the BBL to a mommy makeover. I highly recommend you speak to your surgeon about this or any other concerns that you might have about you upcoming surgery.

If you are in good health, there should be no problem if you have both procedures at the same time.
Also other factors to consider is how much tissue needs to be removed from your abdomen and the length of the surgery which might include liposuction of some areas.

Hi, thanks for your question. In theory you can have a Mommy Makeover and BBL in one procedure, but we tend not combine these two procedures as the recovery would be extremely difficult. With a BBL we ask that you don't sit on your bum or lie flat on your back for at least two weeks following your surgery, so if you had a Mommy Makeover to recover from at the same time this would almost be impossible. The Mommy Makeover is also an extensive surgery that takes several hours and adding another procedure to it could be quite risky. I recommend that you book an in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon in order to discuss all of your options and to assess whether these surgeries are the right procedures for you and for the results that you are trying to achieve.

The answer to your question depends on how much larger you want your backside to be and how much extra fat you currently have. I will usually use the fat liposuctioned from the abdomen in addition to the fat from the back and flank to augment the buttocks. Good luck!

Without in person evaluation or series of good photos, it is hard to give you good advice. In general, BBL, which usually involves liposuction of torso and fat transfer for shaping buttocks and hips, should be done separately if large volume liposuction and large augmentation is anticipated. In the case of smaller liposuction/augmentation, depending of how extensive  other MMO procedures are, it can be considered as a single surgery in properly selected candidates. Good luck.

It is best however that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine whether you can have several aesthetic surgeries in one session, as this would depend on various factors including but not limited to your general health condition, the type of anesthesia that will be used, and the type of surgeries that will be performed among others.

Depends on what procedures youre getting done in your mommy makeover. Ive done both safely and no complications have arrived during surgery, but it all depends on how many procedures youre getting into, your hemoglobines levels and other important medical results.
