Hi there! Fat transfer to the lips is a great option for volumization. The lips can be tricky in that upwards of 50% of the fat injected won’t take between the 1-3 month mark. The results of fat transfer would last around 5-10 years in most cases. I would avoid any heavy manipulation or excessive heat for a minimum of 4 weeks. This would include any intimate activities like kissing. Best of luck!
Good Morning Confidence111,I hope this message finds you in good health. From what I can gather from the minimal information you have provided you are concerned with the downtime after a fat augmentation. Vigorous kissing and making out should be avoided for a period of 6 weeks. Application of any lip balm over the lips after augmentation can be done within a few days. Fat augmentation is a much more long term approach to plump up lips but the volume that fat provides will reduce significantly from the time of administration to a range of anywhere between 40 to 60 %. Fat does not last forever but does last for a few years time which is longer than fillers. I would recommend a video consultation / in person consultation with a board certified Aesthetic Plastic surgeon to take this forward and thoroughly answer your query.Dr. Pranav Reddy JambulaIAAPS, ISAPS, APSI, APRAS, ASI MemberMBBS, MS, MCH, IAAPS Fellow
Most plastic surgeons will have a different postoperative instructions but I would say typically most would recommend minimal pressure on an area treated for the first 2 to 3 weeks. some of the fat injected will not survive and gets absorbed by your body and the fat that reestablishes a new blood supply and becomes a successful graft is not permanently grafted in your lips.If you’re not happy with the outcome it is extremely difficult to remove previously grafted fat in lips.I recommend most patients stay with fillers.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
Hi Katy! Nanofat is very thin and I use it mostly for stem cells and growth factors in areas of scarring. I don't find it ideal for any sort of volume. Microfat is slightly larger and is often ideal for finesse in areas which may show lumps. Traditional macrofat tends to "take" the best...
If the area does not fill out again in 3 months I would consider fat transfer. Do see someone experienced for natural looking results.
Hello! Fat grafting final results do vary in the literature as you've said. I tell my patients 3-6 months for full "take" in a majority of cases. The fat lasts on average 5-10 years depending on the quality and location. To remove fat, you can consider microliposuction. I would advise against...
