Hello, Can exposure to thirdhand smoke for around 8 hours the night before BBL cause complications? Non-smoker, no exposure to secondhand smoke, no previous exposure to thirdhand smoke. 15 months out. Very little fat survived. Necrosis. DVT (had other procedures done at the same time). Thank you.

Answer: Unlikely Smoking is definitely not ideal for any surgical procedures. However, it would be very rare to have decreased fat survival and necrosis from third hand smoking

Answer: Third hand smoke I don’t think thirdhand smoke had anything to do with your cosmetic surgery results. There are in the end typically only two variables that matter when it comes to cosmetic surgery results. They are the individual candidacy of the patient for that procedure combined with the skill and experience of the provider. Poor fat survival rates is typically related to grafting technique but they can be other variables. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
