Answer: Lipomas can appear due to trauma being caused to the body as well as being hereditary. Lipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur under the skin and less commonly within the muscle. They are associated with mild discomfort and a lump underneath the skin. It is always best to talk to an expert plastic surgeon to determine whether the lipoma is possibly a cyst or a tumor or hernia. We would have to remove the lipoma to be sure that it is not something else and we usually do this by sending it to a pathologist for evaluation. If a lipoma is painful, then an exam is needed to make sure it is not compressing on a nerve or whether the diagnosis is different. Aftercare for a lipoma includes gentle compression and Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily on the wound. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Exercise fine for Multiple Lipomas You most likely have the diagnosis of familial lipomatosis (other family members will have the same problem). Lipomatosis is believed to be a dominant trait in which multiple lipomas are present. Most are discrete, encapsulated lipomas on the trunk and extremities.Although they may increase with weight gain, weight loss and exercise doesn't improve them in my experience.Although this condition is benign, many patients concerned with cosmesis seek removal of individual tumors. Treatment can include simple excision, endoscopic removal, or liposuction if large. Liposuction, whether laser Liposuction or traditional will leave some of the lipoma cells behind which over time will probably recur though it may take years.Find the most qualified plastic surgeon with experience with this problem to take care of you.

Answer: What causes lipomas Lipomas are abnormal growth of fatty cells. They are not caused by going to the gym so I would encourage you to continue to workout. Some individuals will have multiple lipomas all over there body. At times they can even be painful. If you do not like the way they look, then having them excised surgically is the best option. If you have them all over the body, then removing five or six of them at a time is possible, and can be done under a local anesthetic. If they bother you now, don't wait for them to get larger. A smaller lipoma means a smaller scar.

Answer: What causes lipomas Though trauma can sometimes trigger a lipoma (or other cyst), some people are just genetically predisposed to them, no matter what you do. It's not fun and I know you'd prefer a different answer, but whether you go to the gym or not, it sounds like you will have lipomas. It is best to have them surgically removed when they are smaller. Visit a dermatologic surgeon for an assessment. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion.
