Do I Have the Beginning of Necrosis, or is It Just Bruising? (photo)

Thank you for the question and photos. I think your surgeon is correct. This is more than bruising, you will have skin necrosis. Some of this skion will recover, but where it is dusky, will procede to a full thickness loss. Stay in close contact with your surgeon to allow for this area to heal. In the worst case, you might need a scar revision at a later date once you are healed. good luck.

I can't say whether the skin in the picture will become necrotic. All that can be done now is good wound care and observation. The skin will ultimately declare itself which would dictate for the treatment.

It appears as though you have some bruising, but make sure you're being followed closely by your plastic surgeon to make sure your skin heals well from the bruising.

It's very hard to tell even with the photos. You may have some superficial skin changes but sometimes this will resolve on its own over 2 weeks. Continue to follow your surgeon's instructions.

and tissue compromise is probable.  Follow his/her advice and treatment plan and you will get through this and be pleasantly surprised at how it ends up.  Remember, you will get through this and your doctor will guide you along the way.

Thank you for the question and pictures. Based on the appearance and location of the “discoloration”, your surgeon's concerns are understandable. Sometimes, however if there is a compromise of tissue vascularity, this  may be relatively superficial. This may be one of those situations where only “time will tell”.  Best to continue close follow-up with your plastic surgeon.
