Scar tissue after labiaplasty, should I massage it or wait till 6 weeks? 5 weeks post op.

I had wedge labiaplasty 5 weeks ago and I’m so excited to be coming up on my six weeks! Today it felt like the remaining stitches are finally gone but the area is still hard. I’ve read to massage the area. Does that woo and should I wait until 6 weeks?

Your labiaplasty scars will soften on their own. It's a normal part of the healing process that requires no human intervention. Massage will cause swelling and discomfort in the labia and it will not improve your healing in any way. There's a boatload of misinformation on the internet that sounds good, but isn't.

Thank you for sharing. Massaging areas of induration after procedure may be uncomfortable and could also cause prolonged healing. The hardness that you feel is your body's natural response to the healing of the incision. This area will eventually soften on it's own without any intervention. Give the labia a little more time to heal and you will be very happy with the outcome.

Massage will delay the healing process and may cause more pain. Your body will break down the scar over time. Massage if you want only after lump is gone.

I think it is too soon to do anything. Even though sutures are gone it is still healing going on. Give it more time please. If after 6mo you still have hard areas, ThermiVa may be an option to look into. Hope this helps.

If your incision line is healed ( no exposed cut edge and scar intact and formed), gentle massage can provide some symptom relief.
