Tearing, ripping, pulling pain after Tummy Tuck.

Question

I had my TT w/out muscle repair w lipo on Feb 19-14. 2 inches to the right of my belly button I have a Tearing, ripping, pulling pain. Sometimes When Im lying down & get up to a sitting position I feel it tearing. At times when I step with my right foot I have shooting pain in that area. Its not all the time. I asked my Surgeon last Tues. when I got staples removed, he said its normal. This is a spot I was lipo'd but I only feel it on this side not anywhere else I was lipo'd.

Although I am sure this is bothersome, nothing sounds particularly out of the ordinary or troublesome.  Those of us who do numerous tummy tucks here of symptoms like this quite regularly.  Almost always there is not specific cause found, and these resolve without treatment. Do follow up with your surgeon regularly, and keep him informed of your progress or lack thereof.Best wishes.

There is a fair amount of recovery for a tummy tuck.  The muscles often spasm and cause a tight, pulling sensation when moving.  If the pain is severe and continues, I suggest you speak with your surgeon again.  It may be part of normal healing, but he/she may suggest options for dealing with it such as warm compresses.

A tummy tuck is a deceptively large procedure.  You may only see an incision across the lower abdomen (not that that isn't large enough!) but there is a lot of lifting, repositioning, and tightening of tissue during the surgery, in addition to any liposuction.  As such, sensations such as these are not uncommon.  They normally go away on their own, and there isn't much you can do about it, or anything you can do to expedite the healing process.That being said, you should obviously check with your plastic surgeon.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr E

Patients are often deceived by the amount of recovery that is needed after a tummy tuck because they look so good after surgery.  However, there is a lot of recovery following a tummy tuck (with or without muscle repair).  You are using your body differently to accommodate keeping pressure off the incisions, so it very well could be muscle spasm.  If the sensation persists, talk to your surgeon.
