Thank you for your question regarding whether you're eligible for a tummy tuck with an elevated GGT and ALP. Even though all these labs are elevated, I would still think to proceed with a tummy tuck. If you have any more elevated labs, these need to be considered. However, if you only have these two elevated labs, I believe you still proceed with your surgery. Of course, if you're an internist, PCP, or GP who determines other health problems, your surgery must be canceled. However, if these are the only two isolated results, you can still proceed with a tummy tuck. Thank you for your question regarding whether you're eligible for a tummy tuck with an elevated GGT and ALP. Please seek an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck. Sincerely,Dr. Katzen
Thank you for your questions dear @Sukanya21In order to know if you qualify for a tummy tuck more labs and testing will be needing and of course a physical evaluation, my recommendation is have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon and he/she can let you know his/her protocol to follow to check if you qualify for this procedure. Your safety is always first! Good luck!
Dear Sukanya21,every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
These are liver enzyme tests. This is a question that should be asked from a gastroenterologist. You need to find the reason for these elevated tests before proceeding to cosmetic surgery.
The key question here is not that your liver enzymes are elevated (which is not a contraindication for an abdominoplasty procedure) but rather WHY are yours elevated. Either way, you should obtain medical clearance prior to securing a surgeon to evaluate you for the abdominoplasty procedureBest wishes,Dr. Taranow
Your surgeon will receive a copy of your lab results if she/he was the ordering physician. They will then review those results and would contact you if there were concerns that would prevent you from proceeding with surgery as planned.
Candidacy for this procedure requires a little more than having blood tests.I recommend anybody interested in having this procedure have multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons. I do not recommend relying on virtual consultations, and I definitely do not recommend traveling long distances for having elective surgical procedures, especially a full tummy tuck.Best,Mats Hagstrom,MD
