Hi! I have had 3 c sections over the last 8 years, oldest was 8 years ago, latest was 14 months ago.. I had two horizontal cuts and the last had to be classical as I had adhesions too much to get through to get the baby. I want a full tummy tuck, muscle repair, and lipo .. is this possible given the adhesions ? I have a consult set up but its 2 months away & I would like opinions prior to that.
Answer: Abdominal Adhesions and Tummy Tuck Procedure Thank you for your question about the possibility of a tummy tuck, muscle repair, and liposuction following three C-sections that resulted in abdominal adhesions. Generally speaking, yes, these procedures can be safely performed. Abdominal adhesions typically reside behind the muscle, and plastic surgeons usually deal with scar tissue above the muscle during a tummy tuck. An experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon should be able to navigate this situation. Hence, your history of C-sections and abdominal adhesions shouldn't prohibit you from undergoing a tummy tuck with muscle repair and liposuction. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Abdomen Yes, you still may be a candidate for the tummy tuck, and your adhesions will not be disturbed inside around your organs sine the tummy tuck does not go through muscle.

Answer: Adhesions and a TummyTuck While you would need general medical clearance from your GP doctor before undergoing surgery, the adhesions you are describing are found within the abdominal cavity where the organs can be found. Think of a your organs as being within a plastic bag and the abdominal muscle as a blanket or "sheath" that sits on top of the plastic bag. As a tummy tuck with muscle plication is performed at the level of the abdominal muscles ("blanket") and above, it is unlikely that your history of having adhesions will be a contraindication to having a full tummytuck with muscle repair and/or liposuction. A virtual or in person consultation with a TummyTuck specialist will provide you an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Brandon Richland, MD

Answer: Adhesions Though an in person evaluation is best, it is likely that you'll be able to have a tummy tuck including muscle repair and liposuction even though you've had adhesions from previous c-sections. During your consultation your surgeon will review your medical history and an exam will be performed to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Answer: Abdominal adhesions post 3 c-sections Dear kgw94, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.
