I'm considering a chin reduction through the submental approach to address some soft tissue and bone issues. I've been told the scar will be barely noticeable under the chin once healed and I've seen pictures from the surgeon's gallery that back that up. However, elsewhere online (not from my surgeon) I've seen cases where the scar is quite noticeable. Is this to be expected because some people scar more than others or are there precautions that can be taken to reduce scarring?

The appearance relates to a combination of submental fat pad and a less defined jawline near the chin. Recontouring the jawline with some limited augmentation will ' break up' the fold that you dislike; in combination with some liposculpture

I would suggest waiting for 4 weeks before lying on your front or face. You would be able to fly within one week following surgery, so long as your surgeon approves this as well.
