Can I buy another garment that fits better than the one they sent me home in on day two? This one is impossible to get in without help and is squeezing me so hard it hurts

Thank you for sharing your question.  Yes it is permitted to remove your binder when you go to the restroom and I would recommend speaking with your surgeon about a different style of garment, perhaps a compression one that better molds to your body.  Hope this helps.

For that short period of time, removal of the binder should be okay.  My patients typically wear a compression garment that can be tightened or loosened as required for six weeks.   I have received no complaints about wearing the garment other than its itchy quality.  Wearing a soft t-shirt under the garment resolves this problem. Phone or email your plastic surgeon's office requesting a list of compression garments you can purchase.  You want to follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative guidelines for recovery.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

It is very important after surgery to avoid constipation, if you need to take the binder off for going to the restroom do it.

A garment should not be squeezing you so hard that it hurts.  I allow my patients to remove it to bathe and if necessary for bathroom use.  Best to review your garment wear routine with your surgeon.

This is a very good question. I always tell my patients that a garment is to both help adher the tummy tuck flap as well as reduce swelling. 
But in addition compression can reduce blood supply. If you feel pain or discomfort that could be the reason why. So good question, it appears that your surgeon may want to size you for a larger garment.

Your garment should fit snugly, but not to the point of being uncomfortable.  It should feel supportive. I recommend speaking with your surgeon about a different garment for you if this one is no longer working correctly for you as there are several types and brands available.

Taking the binder off for a short time should not be a problem. If you feel it is too tight you should call your PS for further instruction. Too tight of a binder can actually cause problems with healing.
