Thank you for sharing your question. Though laying on your stomach would apply external pressure to your skin it is unlikely to make a material difference in the formation of a seroma. You are better served with a compression garment that can provide pressure and can help minimize sheer. Hope this helps.
Lying on your stomach should not impact you developing a seroma or not...................................
Thank you for your question. There are no well designed studies that support laying on your stomach to reduce seroma formation. Could it work? Possibly. Could it be harmful? Possibly. The reality is that during sleep we all move around quite a bit and therefore any compression from laying on your stomach would not be uniform and might actually produce shear on newly forming connections between abdominal wall and skin. Every surgeon will have a different protocol. Personally in the absence of good scientific data I advise patients to do what's comfortable.Best Dr. L
I use drains and a binder in my tummy tuck patients immediately after surgery to reduce the risk of seroma. Once the drainage from the drains is minimal, I remove them and then have patients get into a stage two garment which is a spanx type compression garment. This combination makes risk of seroma low. Laying on your stomach may put too much tension on the abdomen after a tummy tuck, a preferred position is lying on your back with your head elevated. Once a little time passes, a side lying position is fine as well. Your surgeon will be able to address their specific instructions for your post op care.
This is a major issue with foreign surgery - lack of followup. If there is an urgent situation, you can go to an ER for assessment. Local plastic surgeons can work out financial deals with you as well to help manage you postoperatively - you can call and check if you would like to get a plastic...
Thanks for your inquiry, I have patients wear a camisole/spanx etc under their binders, please ask your surgeon if he/she would recommend as well, good luck.
This is something to discuss with your surgeon, for my patients, I want them to wait 6 weeks before resuming any type of formal exercise. One month however, should be plenty of time to return to school. Good luck.
Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and I am sorry to hear of your suture related issue. At times long-lasting sutures can work themselves up to the skin surface and "spit." These are best treated with removal by your surgeon to avoid the periods of inflammation that can en...
This drainage is normal, but you can always schedule an in-person examination with your surgeon to ease your mind. If you begin to feel ill, notice discoloration or experience new symptoms then this would be a case in which you should schedule an examination with the surgeon’s office i...
No laser will tighten your skin. You look great considering you've had two kids. If you are unwilling to place a scar on your abdomen, then simply leave it alone. A mini-tummy might be of benefit only if you accept a scar. Good luck, Dr. PG
