Hi there. I had a tummy tuck in 2011 in the UK and it went brilliantly and I am still very happy with it. Overthe last 5 or 6 years I have been getting horrible pain when bending over. Not all the time you understand, but quite often. Today was the worst of all and I couldn’t straighten up for several Minutes. It feels as if my abdominal muscles are tearing. It may not have anything to do with the tummy tuck but I have not had any other surgery.
Answer: Pain after tummy tuck It’s not uncommon for patients to have certain amounts of pain particularly with certain activities or certain movements for a while after having had a full tummy tuck. for most patients the initial postoperative pain lingers and there’s a tight restrictive feeling that slowly gets better month by month. If this is something that has gradually gotten worse or the pain is increased several years after the procedure and then it may not be related to your previous surgery and probably should be looked into. There are a lot of different things that can cause abdominal pain and without more information it’s very difficult to pinpoint any exact cause but it would be unusual for someone to do fine and then later developed the pain because of this procedure. I suggest you review this with your primary care doctor and consider appropriate referral based on their evaluation. There probably isn’t much a plastic surgeon can do since it’s not a surgical issue at this point. Unfortunately even patients who develop pain after cosmetic surgical procedures are still at a bit of a loss when it comes to plastic surgeons doing anything since the operation is more or less permanent and irreversible. Hope things get better. Best Mats Hagstrom MD
