Can a sliding genioplasty be advanced even more after the first operation?

drs. after a prior chin reduction i had a sliding genioplasty to reverse it and bring it forward. i believe there were limitations as to how much projection i could get. so my dr has suggested to come back in 5 months to bring it more forward and down. is this normal? does the bone fuse and is able to be cut again? also can a genioplasty create a "designer" sqaure chin as opposed to a narrow chin?
