How exactly is an internal mastopexy done? And are any foreign objects kept inside the breast to do this? Apart from dissolvable sutures etc? What are the complications after surgery if any? Pros and cons of this surgery? Thank you so much for your answers! Much appreciated!
Answer: What is an Internal Mastopexy? Dear Jessie, Thank you for your question. Although there are different ways to "secure" breast tissue internally - there have been some problems associated with each. Using sutures to stitch breast tissue together or suturing it to muscle typically doesn't work - here is why. If you are familiar with animal fat you might know that if you press on it with your finger - it easily dissolves. So, placing sutures through fat simply can't hold and they don't as results clearly show descent soon after. Using mesh has also proved troublesome as it can get infected, it can adhere to skin and cause skin surface irregularities, and simply doesn't hold the breasts in place vertically. Acellular dermal matrices are expensive and also fail to hold the breasts in place vertically after time. I have attached a short video that shows how breasts are reshaped and supported internally using your own tissue to avoid the pitfalls before mentioned. I've also attached a link to the peer reviewed paper written on this technique. You are welcome to visit my gallery on this site to see examples of The Bellesoma Method breast lift, reduction and explantations that do not require vertical incisions nor breast implants. I hope this helps clarify some questions for you. Best wishes and kind regards,

Answer: What is an Internal Mastopexy? Thank you for your question and photograph. An internal mastopexy can refer to a few different scenarios. It can refer to remodeling your breast tissue during surgery to reshape the breast and is routinely performed with only sutures. There are other mastopexy techniques that will use sutures to anchor the breast tissue to the surrounding muscle, to a rib or a combination thereof. Lastly different types of meshes can be used as a sling inside your breast that will help support your breast tissue, taking tension off of your skin. Talk to your surgeon about the type of internal mastopexy technique they were considering for you. Hope this helps.

Answer: Internal mastopexy An internal mastopexy encompasses a variety of possible procedures that may or may not involve foreign substances such as mesh. For you, I do not think you will necessarily need a mastopexy of any kind. Some surgeons may place internal sutures after removing implants but I have not found this to be needed. I would give your body plenty of time to heal and if needed you can entertain the idea of getting a breast shaping procedure to tighten the loose skin if needed. I do not think you will be needing this however. All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
