Although I’ve never heard of anyone placing implants in to the hamstring area for hamstring enhancement, it does not mean that it has not been attempted. The long story short is, the hamstring area does not present a good tissue space for acceptance of an implant. The quality of skin, the lack of subcutaneous fat, the adherence of the skin via the connective tissues to the underlying muscles, and the uneven slender muscles with long tendonous components of the hamstring muscles make this area very risky for an implant that will stay in place and look anything realistic. Glad to be of help.
Dear Ozz1, Sorry, but your question is quite confusing and I am not sure what exactly do you mean. It will be very helpful if you post posterior and side view pictures of your lower trunk area and point out to the area of deficiency. All the best, Dr Widder
Implants placed in any extremity are based on the concept of subfascial placement on top of a large muscle belly. This is how rectus femoris (thigh) and gastrocnemius (calf) muscle augmentations work with a low rate of complications. The hamstrings are unique in that regard because they represent a collection of muscles (semitendinous, semimembranous and the biceps femoris) to create the set of muscles known as the hamstrings. The largest of that group is the biceps femoris which offers the best opportunity for subfascial implant placement given its width and length. Whether that corresponds to your desired area of augmentation and in an amount that is desired requires more input from you.
Implants can be placed just about anywhere. I don’t think hamstring implants are going to deliver what you are trying to achieve. I say this based on the anatomy primarily.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
