5 months ago I had a MM to include breast implants (530 cc natrelle implants in each breast, axillary incision). My ab lipo was end of April. Results were great! A week ago my right breast suddenly started feeling sore and then it began swelling, raising and getting warm & firmer. My Doc thinks It occurred too suddenly to likely be capsular contracture. He is treating me with antibiotics, medrol & Accolate. Any ideas what could be the cause? He’s not sure...yet.

Answer: Breast Swelling after augmentation Hello, Thank you for your question. It is extremely unusual to have infection this far out from operation. Most likely cause is capsular contracture which is early but could happen. I recommend to follow with your plastic surgeon closely. If the size of your right breast keep increasing then you might need a radiological study to evaluate the pocket and implants. Good Luck!

Answer: Capsular contracture Dear 7296321, based on your description and symptoms, there is a chance that you have capsular contracture. Capsular contracture affects people approximately one in 20. No one knows exactly what causes it and what can prevent it completely. It's important for your doctor to use a minimal incision and a Keller funnel as a sleeve to protect the implant from touching anything before goes into the breast pocket. Singulair has been shown to prevent it Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
