Hi! So all my life my right side of my face has been droopy, like I’ve got a more hooded lid on my right eye, my jaw is more droopy on my right side, my mouth is more droopy on the right side. What could be done about this? Sincerely, Patricia
Answer: Facial Asymmetry You have congenital right-sided facial asymmetry in which that side of the face is vertically shorter from top to bottom. Your facial asymmetry is a superior-based one in which the most significantly affected area is at the top in the eye area and the lower portions of the face show more subtle deformations. This is mainly seen in the eye area with the orbital box (bones around the eye) being lower than the left side. This is known as vertical orbital dystopia in which everything around the eye is lower from the eyebrows to the cheeks. It is seen to a much less degree with fuller tissues closer to the jawline and the right corner of the mouth more downturned. There are a range of treatment options for this type of facial asymmetry and it depends on far you want the correction to go. Soft tissue management alone can be done with a combined endoscopic browlift, lateral canthoplasty (to raise the outer eye corner), cheeklift/implant and corner of mouth lift. More complete correction would involve raising up the lower eye and the upper eyelid as well.

Answer: Asymmetric Facial "Droop" What you have appears to be very typical facial asymmetry with one side fuller and shorter and the other longer and thinner. Everyone has it to some extent. A number of years ago a number of who taught photography to plastic surgeons took pictures of famous people and made 2 new pictures of them by reversing a picture and putting the right half with the flipped right half and doing the same for the left. That gave 3 pictures. The results were astounding and the reversed images were not recognizable as the same person. I would advise you not to worry about it. If, in the future, you decide to have anything done, you can consider ways to make things more symmetrical. As far as the hooded lids, you may have a mild ptosis (lid droop) that could be evaluated by a plastic or ophthalmic plastic surgeon specializing in ptosis.
