Great question. Pretty simple answer--it depends. On how much fat is harvested and whether it is done evenly and smoothly. Often surgeons are more concerned with the fat obtained and the BBL, and care very little about the donor site appearance. Or perhaps feel that if they deflate and make the belly look bad they may eventually get a tummy tuck out of this patient! The actual umbilical incision is only several mm long (about 1/4th inch or less) and if not too irritated by the fat removal process, and sutured skillfully, will usually heal beautifully. (Scar hardly visible)But there must be a reason you are asking this question. If you have a friend whose result makes you worry about this potential concern, then obtain several consultations by ABPS-certified plastic surgeons and see some of their outcome photos, including tummy tuck photos. This may help give you an idea about how your chosen surgeon cares for this area.If the belly button is "messed up" by liposuction for fat harvest, it may get better as things heal and scar tissue softens and matures. But bad outcomes do not correct themselves. They are best avoided in the first place, and in many (but not all) cases, can be improved upon by a skilled plastic surgeon who cares about this area. Should be all of us, eh? Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
