Halo treatment next week. Will I get hyperpigmentation after the treatment?

There is always a chance that any laser treatment can cause hyperpigmentation. Halo in my experience can be used on many skin types but settings need to be adjusted accordingly. We have had great experiences with treating melasma but the patient has to pretreat with hydroquinone or something similar prior to treatment to suppress the melanocytes and after. Seek a professional that is well versed in doing Halo treatments and they can give you the best advise. Best of luck!

Halo is one of the safer laser treatments out there for darker skin types. We would start you on hydroquinone for a few weeks to prep your skin before the laser treatment. This will lessen your chances of getting a hyperpigmentation from lasers. It's safer to stick to more conservative settings for your skin type. You should address these concerns with your doctor prior to going in for the treatment. 

Thanks for the great question! Post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation is something that can occur after Halo treatment, especially is patients with darker skin such as yours. When I'm treating darker skin type patients with Halo, I typically have then use a bleaching agent such as hydroquinone for 4 weeks prior to the procedure to help reduce the risk of forming PIH.
