I had Septoplasty 5 days ago, post nasal drip after op?

Question

Am recovering well however my nose is still blocked most of the time and there is a lot of post nasal drip most of the time, i constantly have to clear my throat, is this normal ?

It is normal to feel as if you nose is "blocked" after septoplasty as  you likely have either splints or packing inside the nostrils.  In addition, nasal drainage consisting of mucus and/or small amounts of blood is normal as well.  Once your splints/packing is removed by your surgeon, you will likely be able to breathe much better.

Thank you for your question. After nasal surgery it takes a few weeks before the inflammation will resolve thus presenting as a blocked nose. Ocean spray a few times a day will decrease the swelling and allow you to breathe better sooner. As for the post-nasal drip, did you have have it before? I would give yourself four weeks to heal and if you are still experiencing these symptoms, reach out to your doctor. Best of luck.

It is extremely common to feel clogged up 5 days after nasal surgery, as you may have dried blood, mucous, and crusting (Scabs) along the intranasal incisions. In addition, you may have splints or packing in your nose that can make the crusting worse. Discuss with your surgeon but you should feel much better after your first post-op visit. Best of luck!
