I am self conscious about my side profile because my chin appears recessed and the skin on my neck does not connect with my jaw until just before the end of my chin. The ideal jaw for men seems to have the neck and jaw skin connect much further back. Would a chin implant alone be sufficient to address both concerns, or might chin/neck lipo be helpful/necessary? I am fairly thin, so I am unsure if lipo is a possibility or not.
Answer: Chin surgery In the photos, it appears that you have a deep mentolabial fold which usually indicates a chin that is short in the vertical dimension. A chin implant would make that fold appear deeper. You may be better off with a sliding genioplasty to lengthen the chin as well as bring it forward. Both these movements can be accomplished with the sliding genioplasty. It is not likely that you would need liposuction to improve your jaw and neckline.

Answer: The feasibility of neck liposuction would depend upon your examination. Based on your photos, we can see that you have a slightly under projected chin appearance. In general, combining chin implant surgery with neck liposuction can oftentimes lead to dramatic changes in somebody's profile appearance and draw a line appearance with minimal inconvenience and downtime. The only hesitation would be if you have no excessive neck fat in your neck to remove. That could increase the likelihood of skin irregularities and dimpling. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Anterior necklift +/- chin implant Thank you for your question and sharing your photographs. As far as I can see in your images, there is no fatty tissue to perform liposuction under the chin, at least not in the layer just under the skin where liposuction takes place. The volume situated deeper to the platysma muscles is a hereditary feature and represents most commonly a mixture of deep-seated fatty tissue, digastric muscles volume, and the volume of the lower part of the submandibular glands. It is amenable to reduction through an anterior neck lift procedure and through the same incision under the chin it is possible to carry out a chin implant. You can also get a good sense of the impact of the changes from an anterior neck lift by using 3D imaging and computer simulation. You may find that if the volume under the chin is removed, you don't need to complement the changes with a chin implant.

Answer: Multiple procedures Thank you for your inquiry! A chin implant and submental liposuction done together in one procedure would help give you a more prominent chin and defined jawline. We would love to help you reach your goals. Schedule a consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon to make sure you're a great candidate for all these procedures and create a surgical plan for you!

Answer: Chin implant You are a good candidate for a chin implant. Liposuction will make an improvement but not as much as a chin implant. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
