Thank you for your inquiry! It is not common for chin implants to become displaced. We would love to meet with you to discuss your options. Schedule a consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon to help you reach your goals.
Chin implant malposition can occur following the placement of a chin implant. To prevent movement of the implant, I prefer to place small screws to prevent migration or malposition. Some surgeons prefer to place sutures but I have seen malposition even with suture fixation. Minimal displacement of a chin implant does not usually affect the final aesthetics.
I would say that it is fairly uncommon for a chin implant to move after it has been placed. It is very important to be careful with the chin area for the first week or so after that surgery, as this is the time when it would be the most likely to move. It would normally take a good amount of force to move the implant.
When chin implant is placed into tight subperiosteal pocked over the bone it is very unlikely that diplacement may happen, unfrequently, lateral extensions of the implant, being very thin and soft may create shape change. It is very important to see your surgeon frequently in the early postoperative period to intervene immediatelly if something like that happens.
Uncommonly chin implants can shift, and sometimes they are placed asymmetrically. Success of a chin implant surgery depends on the skill of your surgeon. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph
Chin implant displacement is relatively uncommon, with an incidence rate of approximately 1% to 5% of cases. The risk varies based on factors such as surgical technique, implant type, post-operative care, and individual healing processes. While most implants remain securely in place, displacement can still occur due to factors like inadequate fixation, trauma, or excessive movement during recovery. Proper surgical planning and careful post-operative care can help minimize this risk. In cases where displacement does happen, minor adjustments or revision surgery may be required to restore the desired chin contour.
It's extremely rare for a chin implant to get displaced after it has healed. In our practice, we place the chin implant directly on the bone underneath a very tight periosteal pocket, so it's extremely rare to ever have the implant shift. We also sew the central part of the implant down with a dissolvable suture, which also helps prevent displacement. We also perform these under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, which take about 30 minutes..
A chin implant will not move if the pocket is made correctly. If the pocket is not made correctly, then the implant sometimes move to where the pocket was initially created. The risk of this is primarily dependent on the skill of the provider.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
An hour experience, when somebody has symptoms from a chin implant, it tends to occur soon after surgery. It's not clear why you are having symptoms a year after your procedure. Do you still feel your implant below the level of your jaw? If an implant is malpositioned, it could be pushing...
Many surgeons advocate the use of extended implants that wrap around the chin, however, I feel that this leads to a widening and masculinization of the chin in many people. The chin narrow, we prefer an anatomical chin implant since it does not lead to widening. It's not clear, based on your...
Your question lacks proper context I’m not sure if anybody is going to give you a satisfactory answer based on your post. Implants typically don’t move from there original placement guy. Some degree of bone erosion can happen from the pressure of the implant. If you’ve had a plastic surge...
