Lip filler swelling after fillers 3 days ago. (Photo)

Question

So I had lip fillers 3 days ago. This isn’t my first time at all and it’s normal for me to bruise. On my top lip though I have developed a lump which is hard, doesn’t love from one spot and it’s turning whiteish on my lip. I have a feeling it’s filler. Could I have some advice?

Thank you for your question.It would be better to be evaluated in person by your injector. The photos show was appears to be a hematoma on the top lip, which means you had some bleeding after the injections. A hematoma would cause the discoloration and hardness.

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  I would first see your injector for an in-person examination to diagnose the cause of the whitish lump.  Most likely this is filler that was placed too close to your skin surface but it may improve as your swelling resolves and the filler softens.  If the lump remains after 2-3 weeks then your injector should dissolve the material with hyaluronidase.  Hope this helps.

From your photo, it appears the lump you are concerned about could either be due to a hematoma or filler placed superficially.It is common to have some swelling and bruising after fillers for lip augmentation which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve.  If this is filler it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if necessary. I recommend having a follow up with your injector for an evaluation. Best of Luck!

Bruising and swelling are normal, but noticing a distinct whitish lump could indicate filler as you suspect. The best option right now is for you to check back in with your injector and seeing what he or she suggests to address this. There are several ways this could be resolved, but your injector is the person who is best informed to make those recommendations.

Based on your photo and history I think there are 3 factors contributing to the swelling. Some of it may be normal reactive swelling after injections into the lips. For this aspect use of ice packs and giving it time would be all you need.  However some of it may be misplaced or too much filler. If a filler such as Restylane or Juvaderm was used this can be reversed with the injection of a specific enzyme to dissolve the excess. Finally given the bruising I would suspect you may have a small hematoma. That's a small collection or pool of blood within your lip. It is only be feeling you lip that these factors can be clinically differentiated. So You need to see your provider for an in person examination to allow them to determine which factor is the main problem and help you decide on the best course of action at this stage.
