My Vaser liposuction & fat transfer BBL Surgery in 9 days I have still been vaping with nicotine. I am trying my hardest to stop. Please can you tell me how serious it is if I can’t stop ? Or if the amount is very minimal. I’m trying my hardest and have made a plan to stop completely at least a few days prior.

Answer: Nicotine and surgery The major issue with nicotine use pre-op is that it causes vasoconstriction of the small blood vessels that are important for healing and for viability of fat after it gets transferred. By continuing to vape so close to your surgery you are running the risk of decreasing the amount of fat that actually takes or stays after the surgery. You are in essence jeopardizing the results.

Answer: Nicotine use and plastic surgery Smoking or nicotine use can have serious detrimental impact on certain plastic surgery procedures. For certain procedures like breast reductions or a tummy tuck massive complications which may include months of wound care leaving patients disfigured can be as high as 50% in those actively smoking and who do not quit in Time. Each plastic surgeon will have their own view and policy. Some plastic surgeons will test for nicotine use through a blood test which detects nicotine abuse over a long period of time. I’ve known plastic surgeons who canceled patient’s surgery without a refund if they’re positive on a nicotine test. I suggest you contact your provider and ask what he or she recommends and what their policy is. It’s a good idea to quit forever. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
