Can I still use MiraDry if I've had underarm laser hair removal?

I just finished my last treatment with laser hair removal for my underarms and am very happy with the results. However, I've read that MiraDry procedures actually advise patients to allow some underarm hair to grow to help localize the area of treatment. Does this mean that I'm not a good candidate for MiraDry? Also, how does the pain of laser hair removal compare with post-operative healing for MiraDry?

Thank you for your question. You can still get MiraDry even if you've had laser hair removal. MiraDry uses thermal energy that targets and eliminates both sweat and odor glands along with reducing the hair growth. The treatment typically takes an hour and a local anesthetic is given to reduce any discomfort that could occur during the treatment. Be sure to consult with a professional at a Board Certified Plastic Surgeons office.

Hello,Thank you for your question. You can absolutely consider doing miraDry if you’ve had underarm laser hair removal. The treatment will be just as successful compared to someone who has not received laser hair removal in that area. A decrease in hair in the underarm area is actually preferred when undergoing a miraDry treatment as we ask clients to shave prior to the appointment. miraDry will also help to partially eliminate underarm hair permanently and unlike laser hair removal it targets any colour of skin/hair the same. miraDry post treatment may include swelling, bruising and discomfort that can last several days to a few weeks

The only fda-cleared treatment that can dramatically and permanently reduce underarm sweat. There will be swelling and you should ice the areas for 24 hours. The swelling shouldn’t prevent you from doing daily activities after the first day. You should start to see results within a few days. There will be a significant reduction in sweat. We've had very high satisfaction rates with Miradry in our patients. About 2/3 do two treatments. Patients with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) or normal but bothersome sweating can use Miradry. Laser hair removal does not interfere with Miradry (although Miradry can result in some hair reduction along with sweat reduction). Our nurses or estheticians can use a starch iodine test to identify sweat glands if needed. Miradry is perform under local anesthesia in the office. Good luck.

You can absolutely get MiraDry, even if you have had laser hair removal in the underarms.  The sweat glands still exist after hair removal, and they are the real target of MiraDry. The hair loss that occurs (happily) after MiraDry is a sort of secondary benefit but is it not necessary for anyone to have underarm hair for MiraDry to give you excellent relief from sweat and odor. Hi cnnebe4,Thank you for your questions! You can still have the MiraDry procedure after having laser hair removal to your underarms. Your provider will use a temporary tattoo templates to mark the skin of where your sweat glands are located. The sensation of laser hair removal is different from MiraDry. Local anesthesia is administered to assure maximum comfort during the treatment. With MiraDry, you may experience some localized soreness or swelling, but it typically clears within a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears. Best of luck!

Yes you can have the MiraDry procedure now that you have completed your laser hair removal sessions. The MiraDry can reduce under arm hair if you still have a few hairs remaining.
