Most cosmetic procedures, in particular those based on liposuction, are performed in certified outpatient surgery centers or office based certified ambulatory facilities. They all have to be registered by the state and some, like one we have, by federal body. There is no advantage of doing these procedures in the hospitals, since hospitals are lacking trained personal and appropriate equipment for these surgeries, so surgeries last longer. The way you should approach your selection is to find an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon, with good reputation in surgery you are interested and discuss where and why he (she) is providing his surgical service. Good luck.
There are a number of ways to look up a hospital's staff on their website, call hospital information in your area to ask for a plastic surgeon on staff, or researching by contacting individual practices you might consider having surgery with to inquire as to where they do their operations. However, you mention this question under the heading of "Brazilian Butt Lift..." every area is different, but there are some pretty consistent trends in that this procedure is generally done in an ambulatory surgery center as an outpatient procedure. This often comes down to economics: hospitals charge much higher fees for the facility, and patients are generally not wiling to pay the additional cost. Another thing is you list your location in California but are asking about Miami...that's a concern. Medical tourism is generally more risky because of the lack of continuity....who is going to take care of you if you have a problem a month later? If the reason behind your question is safety, then the elements you want to know are whether the facility is accredited, whether all standard of care guidelines are followed (such as use of US, staying above muscle, not going over an unsafe maximal amount of liposuction, etc...). Ultimately having this discussion with your surgeon in consultation is what will tell you whether to be comfortable with that healthcare professional.
Dear TrueLotus, finding the right Dr. is extremely challenging especially with the number of online platforms and resources available. There a lot of great Dr's available. Make sure he/she is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Definitely check to make sure your choice specializes in the procedure you want and spend the time to read through patient testimonials. There is a number of different sites where you can check for reviews (Realself, yelp, google, etc.).You can always pick up the phone and call around also, find an office you feel comfortable with and set up a few consultations. Great question! Most "private practice" boarded Plastic Surgeons have surgical hospital privileges. The issues are why are you requesting hospital surgery? Is it outpatient, 23 hour stay, inpatient? Plus the costs are triple to use the hospital setting usually. And full written clearances are required. Also patient must arrive 4 days early to be evaluated by the hospital and follow very strict CoVid protocols. So, YES, I can offer hospital surgeries but you need to understanding there is added expenses. Best to virtual with...
I would look for several surgeons and then call the offices of each and inquire if they use a surgical center or hospital. Most use surgical centers.
Most likely The majority the plastic surgeons in Miami do Outpatient surgeries in the surgery center an inpatient surgeries in a hospital. Most of the ones that are board-certified and have active standings in the American society a plastic surgeons will probably have privileges in local hospital but prefer to do operations in freestanding surgery centers because of facility cost. You’ll have to call each plastic surgeon and find out yourself. I do not recommend patients travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. I recommend patients have multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons before committing to having this operation. The importance of comparing surgeons through in person consultations simply having your consultation in person, excepting the number of people who have major issues after surgery and need in person postoperative care, the number of patients who have dissatisfied with the road, and want revisions or the complications happen is often not taken into consideration.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
Hi and welcome to our forum! Most plastic surgeons are affiliated with a nearby hospital. Outpatient surgery in a hospital setting can easily be accomplished. If an overnight stay is desired, this can be added as well. State laws control the mandatory basic requirements for a surgicenter's operation. It is basically a hospital without in-patient beds. Visit a board certified plastic surgeon for evaluation and discussion.Best wishes...
Plastic surgeons don’t really manage pain. Even if it’s related to the procedure there isn’t much a plastic surgeon is going to be able to do. If the pain persists consult with a pain specialist.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
