I wish he was home so I could send a picture and may have to later. He These procedures are not cheap and it sound like the insurance won't cover it, plus the airfare, lodging and food. Is this the only option and if so can you refer me to a Surgeon that is close to Idaho. I'm a single parent and hate to see my son, be so embarrassed by this condition. He wears tee shirts to swim, a coat, or a compression shirt under his shirt. He lifts weights, but this hasn't helped. Thank you! Adele Allen

I am sorry to hear about your son's concerns; he is fortunate to have a concerned mom. I would suggest starting with the American Society of Plastic Surgery and/or the Aesthetic Society of Plastic Surgery to obtain a list of well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons.

Answer: Gynecomastia will change his life Some of the happiest patients I have treated are young men or teenage boys with gynecomastia. The improvement in self esteem and confidence can be profound after surgery. It would be best to have your son consult with two or three board certified plastic surgeons as close to home as possible. Whatever you do, don't go to a general surgeon or pediatric surgeon for this problem. I have seen disastrous results from non-plastic surgeons trying to treat gynecomastia.

Although cost can play a role, it should not be the only deciding factor. This is someone's body and health and well-being. Many offices provide financing to help with the payment.
