However, it is very rare situation where this would be required. You did not provide photos or the reason you are having this surgery. There are many ways that lateral canthal surgery can be profoundly disappointing. Smaller eyes is just one of those issues. Lateral canthal surgery is not cosmetic surgery. It is at best a reconstructive procedure. It is all too common for these surgeries to be performed over aggressively by well meaning surgeons who do not full understand the subtle and not so subtle changes that may occur with these surgeries which make it very difficult to control. I think the fact that you find it necessary to post this question suggest that you have not had all your questions answered. I strongly recommend additional opinions before proceeding with this surgery.
rsmember138 I have been performing eyelid surgery successfully for over 2 decades. I have never found it necessary to perform a lateral tarsal strip on all 4 eyelids. Why were you told that you need such a procedure? I would advice a second opinion. I perform eyelid surgery without any scalpel blades. I use a laser in my accredited operation room in sterling Heights Michigan. This is done for your safety, sterility and comfort. i would be happy to discuss your options at my office.
Thelateral tarsal strip procedure is a type of canthoplasty. This is performed only on the lower eyelidsin order to tighten them and prevent descent and complications after ablepharoplasty or to correct the ectropion (droop or eversion of the lowereyelid).Only that skin that it extra isremoved. The procedure is designed toreturn the eyelid to a normal length and appearance.Because of the way you stated your question,I would suggest that you discuss this at length with your surgeon so that youunderstand exactly what is to be done.If you do not get your questions completely answered, seek a secondopinion.
Thank you for your question. I have my patients massage the scars with vitamin E oil. Just a tiny bit so that it doesn't get into the eyes.

You will need to see an oculoplastic surgeon to evaluate the muscle function, and your cornea. Any surgery to correct for CPEO will cause the eye to remain open which can dry out your cornea. How well you adapt to the corneal exposure will depend on your age, and remaining...
Scleral show, or rounding / pulling downward of the lower eyelids, sometimes is associated with lower eyelid procedures. Minor scleral show will usually go away as swelling subsides. I recommend massaging upwards and to the side several times a day. Some doctors recommend...
As a cosmetic oculofacial plastic surgeon and boarded with facial cosmetic surgery, I have been doing a lot of facial procedures and I also have a lot of experience with the tear trough area. The hollowing at the tear trough area is due to skin that is very thin. There was a time in my 20 years...
While it is commonly used and it does accelerate the reduction in swelling, it is not always necessary. It is generally safe but like any drug, it does have side effect. You physician and pharmacist should discuss these issues with you. The medrol dose pack is a short course of...
