Im afraid that I have lost some projection on my chin after a genioplasty surgery. Is there any chance that the projection that was given initially may change and decrease compred to what it was before? The titanium plate might bend, or the slided bone may slip back to the space that was created post the surgery? I can feel the difference in projection of what I have now and what I had 1 month after the surgery.
Answer: Genioplasty It is important to note that after a genioplasty, the initial projection and shape of the chin can change during the healing process. Swelling and tissue changes are common after surgery, and it may take several months for the final outcome to become evident. The initial post-operative projection you experienced at one month may not necessarily be the final result. Regarding the stability of the chin position, genioplasty procedures typically involve the use of titanium plates and screws to secure the bone in its new position. These plates and screws are designed to provide stability and maintain the desired projection of the chin. It is rare for the titanium plate to bend or for the bone to slip back to its original position unless there is a significant traumatic event or complication. However, if you are noticing a noticeable change in the projection of your chin and are concerned about it, I recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your surgeon. They can evaluate your current condition, assess the stability of the implant, and address any concerns you may have. During the follow-up appointment, your surgeon will examine the healing progress, discuss any changes you are experiencing, and determine if any further treatment or evaluation is necessary. If you remain dissatisfied after discussing your concerns with your initial surgeon, it might be beneficial to seek a second opinion from another qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. They can provide an independent evaluation of your situation and offer alternative treatment options or recommendations. I hope this helps, best of luck !

Answer: Genioplasty Good Morning Enthusiastic150926,I hope this message finds you well. A genioplasty surgery usually shows non relapsing results in the long term as the titanium plates are non resorbable, as well as the fact that the bones are now fractured into a new position and hence grow in that fashion moving forward. Although there is some edema post surgery - there will be a slight reduction in your projection for the first 6 to 12 months post surgery which settles to its final result in around 1 year post surgery. To answer your query - I would need to see pre and post op imagery and actual time frame of your procedure along with surgery details if possible. I would recommend a video consultation / in person consultation with a board certified Aesthetic Plastic surgeon to take this forward and thoroughly answer your query.Dr. Pranav Reddy Jambula
