How often and how deep would I have to do Skinpen microneedling? (Photo)

Question

How many, how often and how deep would I have to do skinpen microneedling to see at least a 70% improvement in these scars? Is PRP better under the skin with microneedling or topically? I'm a 38 year old man in great physical shape.

SkinPen is a great tool to improve the look of acne scars.  The depth will be adjusted based on your needs, which is why it is important to select an experienced provider for your treatment.  Typically three to four Skin Pen treatments are suggested for optimal improvement.  Peels can also be added to enhance results.

You better target for a combination of methods - adding TCA peels, subcision, and skin care would add additional benefit. There is no scientific data about PRP benefits in addition to microneedling (although offered by many, the data is not very strong). Best, Dr K

Skin Pen with topical PRP done monthly for a minimum of six treatments along with Vi Peels would work well. You need not be concerned with proper needle depth as your provider dictates the settings. In addition a good skin care program is essential. See a licensed provider in a medical facility.

Hi,Microneedling to treat acne scars would require 4-6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart.  The depth can be up to 2.5mm.  However, varying depths may be needed depending on your response and area of face.  I would actually also recommend chemical peels which are typically more economical than lasers/microneedling to help treat these acne scars, a daily skincare regimen with products that contain anti-oxidants, retinol, or glycolic acid. Best,Dr. Huo

For acne scar treatment using the SkinPen microneedling device, I usually recommend 3-5 sessions spaced apart at 4 week intervals using 0.5-2.5 mm depth. I recommend combining the SkinPen with topical PRP.

We do a lot of SkinPen treatments in our practice for acne scarring. It helps to do multiple treatment sessions. We usually use a depth of 2 mm for acne scars. You should understand that acne scars can be improved but it is a slow process which takes repeat treatments and it often helps to combine different treatment modalities. You might also benefit from other treatments, including subcision, fillers, and TCA CROSS. Regards,Dr. Ort
