Will solcoseryl gel help my skin grow over the protruding ear graft? (Photo)

Question

Rhinoplasty done with grafting from ear. Silicone protruding out but it is no painful and there is no sign of infection. I have just done rhinoplasty with grafting from my ear for the tip of nose. But the silicon is protruding at the tip. I checked with the doctor and he said to apply Solcoseryl gel for 7 days and let the skin grow. May I know is it workable?

Dear hello girl86,Thank you for your question and picture. Without an in-person consultation I'm unable to ascertain if what we see at the tip is the protruding ear graft or silicone protruding. What I am seeing is definitely worrying and you should definitely seek an urgent consult with your rhinoplasty surgeon, if you have not already done so. Some of the reasons as to why you may have such skin changes to the nasal tip may include 1. infection 2. aggressive tip defatting leading to skin necrosis 3. implant extrusion. Solcoseryl gel is a cream that's used to promote wound healings in patients with burns and sores. If there is impending implant extrusion or infection, this cream would not be useful, and you would want to remove the implant early to avoid further scarring over the tip of the nose. Unfortunately, I have seen quite a few of these patients who have impending implant extrusion. In my experience, the earlier this is treated the better as the scars and deformity to the tip is reduced. Removing the foreign body would give the nasal tip skin the best chance to heal and this can be reconstructed at a later date with a total autologous rhinoplasty and structural fat grafting to the nasal tip. There may be permanent scars to the nasal tip which may be difficult to treat. Hope this helps and get well soon!Regards,Dr. Terence GohPlastic Surgeon

I'd advise you to see your surgeon or another plastic surgeon as soon as possible. If the silicone is extruding through the skin then it needs to be removed, conservative therapies will not work.

You need to see a doctor in person. This can become a serious issue. I am unsure if gel will solve this problem and likely needs further surgery, removal of the implant and external reconstruction. The protrusion can get larger so please seek expert and or secondary opinion.
