I am 5'4 150 lbs, I am pear shaped and currently wear a 34A. I am having implants this summer. I'm worried implants will make me look fat. Any size suggestions to keep from looking blocky?
Answer: Will implants make me look fat? This is a fairly common question with patients. It is true that if implant size is not carefully selected it can make you appear heavier. There is no specific magic size base in height and weight. My suggestion is to consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon who will sit down with you and talk to you about sizing. Sizing is based on patient desires and the natural anatomical limits of the native breast. Your plastic surgeon should be able to guide you through that process. Keep in mind that once you have implants, it's not a matter of if you will ever need another operation but when. I do sometimes see previous augmentation patients of my senior partner that have implants that were placed >20 yrs ago. As these patients age, some have gained weight over time. As they gain weight, their breast enlarge from that when they were younger and then they appear heavy. These patients ultimately have their implants removed and then require a breast lift at the same time. Hope this helps.

Answer: Implant for Your Body Type/Size Dear Mamab001, In general, if you pick a nicely proportioned implant size for your body that should not be an issue. I will add, however, that when I see women for breast augmentation in their upper 30s and 40s I particularly caution them about going too large on the implant or it can make one look heavier because this is the age that men and women start to put on weight. I hope this has been helpful. Robert D. Wilcox, MD

Answer: Surgery Hello dear, thanks for your question and provided information as well.. That will depend on the size you choose. They give more volume to the body, but speccially fat they will not going to make you look.

Answer: Will implants make me look fat? Though most patients come in seeking breast augmentation to better balance their body proportions, some are worried about looking "heavy" after surgery. I find that this perception varies from individual to individual and so if your priority is to make your breasts larger, be careful to not over augment yourself to decrease this risk of your perceiving yourself as "fat." I am a strong believer in achieving balance and nice proportioning without overdoing the size of the implants, but I ask my patients to show me examples of breast size that is appealing to them to give us a target. In my practice the average implant is probably in the 320 cc range. Many of the questions here on RealSelf seem to relate to implants of 450-600 ccs + and this worries me due to long term negative effects of such large implants for those patients.Goals for my patients generally vary from becoming a mid C cup to a full C cup. Bring photos with you to any consult that reflect your goals and review them with your chosen ABPS Bd Certified plastic surgeon. After, take some time to think about your choices before committing to proceed. Best of luck and enjoy your results.
