What happens if you gain weight after CoolSculpting?

Question

I’ve read that CoolSculpting is permanent, since it removes the fat cells. So, if you gain weight after treatments, do you just gain more weight in other parts of your body?

Coolsculpting removes the fat cells permanently. When you gain weight the number of fat cells don't increase but they get bigger so in the treated are the residual fat cells will get bigger and in other areas all the original fat cells get bigger. The treated area will still look better than the untreated area.

Because CoolSculpting eliminates fat cells in the treatment area, if you gain weight after treatment, the remaining fat cells in the treatment area as well as the untreated areas will enlarge. So while you may see some adverse effects to the areas you treated with CoolSculpting, they will still look smoother and more contoured than other untreated areas. Your best option for ensuring long-term optimal results is to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Good luck

Although CoolSculpting permanently removes fat cells where it was performed, if you do gain weight, it will occur in other areas of your body where fat cells remain. This is true for liposuction as well.A healthy diet with moderate exercise will help prevent other areas, where you have fat cells, from increasing in size. Good luck!

It is possible for any remaining fat cells in that area to grow in size if weight is gained after treatment. The absolute number of fat cells we will have in our body is mostly set by the time of adolescence.  Coolsculpting is a FDA approved procedure for permanent destruction of up to 25 percent of fat cells in the area of treatment.  If you gain weight after your procedure, it will show up either in other areas of your body or in the previous area of treatment in the fat cells that remain.

Coolsculpting permanently destroys fat cell in the treatment area, so even if you gain weight, the fat cells that were destroyed with Coolsculpting will not come back.  If you later gain a small amount of weight after your coolsculpting treatment, you will most like see the weight in areas where you did not have the cool sculpting treatment done. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fat cells in the area previously treatment may get larger (but will not increase in number) leading to the appearance of new fat cells in the treatment area.

Coolsculpting will result in permanent destruction of a percentage of your fat cells. While you may appear slimmer due to the loss of fat cells your weight will likely stay the same.  Weight gain can occur after Coolsculpting if excess fat and calories are consumed.  The excess weight occurs from the remaining fat cells growing larger.
