Ultherapy uses miscrofocused ultrasound for nonivasvie skin lifting, and more elastic skin responds better. This is usually patients in their 40's to mid 50's. Laser resurfacing targets surface qualities of the skin and involves some down time for recovery. Thicker, heavier skin may not respond as well to either procedure.
They are technologies that are best for different skin types. Ultherapy works best for people who want to tighten up the lower face - jowls, fat under the neck. Laser resurfacing is best for either fines lines and wrinkles or for patients with acne scars. Make a consultation with someone who does both of these procedures so that you don't get talked into doing the wrong one.
These procedures are different and independent. The type of skin, amount of laxity and sun damage and age make a big difference. It is impossible to give advice without seeing your skin in person as to what the best combination of treatments is best for you. Resurfacing helps tighten but not much. Radiofrequency or ultrasound do best for lifting and tightening. I suggest seeing a expert cosmetic dermatologist who can give you an honest opinion that is individualized on your skin type. Best, Dr. Emer.
