Is it possible to get a refined tip with thick skin and cartilage in the tip? (Photos)

Question

I had my rhinoplasty consulation earlier this week and was told that I won't be able to have a super refined tip due to thick skin and a lot of cartilige in my tip. I was advised that my nose could become more narrow, defined and I could have the ski slope, however I did want a button type slim nose that would also suit my South Asian features. How realistically achievable is this for me?

Hi Magical. What you were told is absolutely correct- you do have thick skin, which will limit how small your nose can be. That means you should probably never expect to achieve a Barbie or button type nose. However, you can DEFINITELY get the tip narrowed based on what I can tell in your photos. You would just need to have realistic expectations about what you can get. So I would say yes, you can definitely improve it but you should not expect the tiniest daintiest smallest tip in the world. It is importnat that you find a surgeon who can meet your goals. Good luck!

Even if the tip skin of your nose is thick, an experienced, skilled surgeon can make good enough results. To overcome thick skin, soft tissue debulking under the skin, trimming and realignment of nasal tip cartilage (alar cartilage), combined with cartilage graft (as a pattern of onlay or strut graft) may be required. I think you can have positive expectations.
Also, alar rim retraction needs to be fixed to achived refined tip appearace.

It is difficult to answer that question without seeing and feeing your nose in person. However, the photos do not seem to indicate an impossible achievement. I base this on the light reflexes and contour of the tip I see in the photos. You would be best served by seeing other revision rhinoplasty specialists for other opinions. What might seem difficult for one surgeon with a limited amount of experience, may be relatively straightforward for another!

Hello, 
I believe that you will be able to achieve the nasal tip that you prefer. You will have to get your nasal tip higher and use the material that is sturdy, for example, the autologous rib will be a good choice for you to use. Of Course, we will need more specific reference photos and full face to see if it suits you, but from the picture, it seems possible and will be getting much prominent fancy look after the rhinoplasty.
