Nose bone protruding when nostril is moved. How can I correct it? (Photo)

Hello, hope you are well. That is a fairly prominent caudal septal deflection--a deviated septum. It is not bone; it is the cartilaginous wall that separates the the two side of the nose. It can be deviated from birth or from trauma. If it is bothersome, it can be corrected with septoplasty surgery. The most common reasons patient's seek septoplasty is for nasal obstruction (impaired breathing through the nose), and sometimes because that area becomes scabbed/bleeds frequently. I have also done some cases like this when a patient cannot wear a CPAP mask because it is too uncomfortable with a prominent septal deviation like that.

Hi ilyhazeal. What you are seeing is either the caudal edge of your septum or a septal extension graft, dpeneding on what was done. It is almost definitely cartilage, not bone. If it does not bother you in any way (appearance or breathing), I would not go hunting for a reason for surgery. However, I suspect that it does impact your ability to breathe on that side, in which case you should consider having it moved over back to the middle. That could even be achieved with a septoplasty alone, depending on who you go to, and may even be covered by insurance. Good luck!
