In-office rasping & no osteotomies revision - how long afterwards should you not wear glasses?

My preference is, in general, always to rasp nasal bones rather than breaking them whenever possible. The fracturing of nasal bones can be traumatic and can cause more bruising and swelling than needed. One could say that rasping is the rule in my practice, not the exception.

With respect to your question, rasping of a callus can be performed in the operating room with a series of rasps to refine the nasal dorsum and profile. Because no bones are broken, there are not fractured nasal bones that need to heal that could be compared to a jigsaw puzzle on the mend. Instead, when rasping, I am filing that which you no longer wish to see. A nasal splint is always put into place at the conclusion of surgery because it reduces swelling. The splint is generally removed at approximately day 8 postoperatively, at which time patients can usually resume wearing most glasses. There is no risk in upsetting the nasal bones since the bones were rasped, not broken.
