I’m starting to get a double chin (or is my skin sagging?) I’m 34. I used to have a more angular chin in my early 20s which I really miss. I also work online so I’m constantly seeing my double chin in video calls and I hate it. What can I do to have a more angular snatched in chin? Will a bit of lipo under my chin work on its own? Thank you (Last photo is me pulling in my chin/jaw to where I want it)

Answer: What can Liposuction achieve? Well, done Liposuction on the right person can give very impressive results in the chin and neck area. Fat is rarely the only corporate aesthetics to be less than perfect. Many people who have facial aesthetics related to the lower, 1/3 of the face often have issues with the structure shape and size of the mandible. Skin laxity contributes as we age as well. Generally speaking young people with thick layers of subcutaneous fat, who have a good mandible structure are the best candidates. With age patients candidacy for Liposuction that begins to decline. At age 50 I think Liposuction should not be employed because most people at that age have lost skin elasticity, making Liposuction much effective and fat removal can cause further skin compromise. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approach this procedure is in reality quite small. Poorly Liposuction can leave people permanently disfigured. Being bored, certified and plastic surgery with decades of experience does not mean somebody is good at Liposuction. I cannot emphasize the importance of providers. Most plastic surgeons are not as good at Liposuction as they think. Plastic surgeons are in fact at Liposuction and average Liposuction results typically don’t look all that great. To get exceptional results you’ll need to find an exceptional provider. Finding the right plastic surgeon is also more difficult than most people realize. I suggest starting by making a list of plastic surgeons in your community who seem to have extensive experience doing Liposuction. Next schedule in person consultations with each of the providers on that list. Bring a complete set of proper facial pictures taken the same way plastic surgeons take before and after pictures. The pictures you have are reasonably good, but have someone else take the pictures for you and make sure angles are straight and you’re not turning your neck. Think of the pictures as mug shots. Bring those pictures with you to use that reference during the consultation. Don’t rely on memory of what you look like or looking in the mirror when comparing before and after pictures. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up the portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had very similar facial characteristics to your own. This means they should be about the same age, the same amount of subcutaneous, fat, similar bone structure, etc. etc. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images representing only the very best results of a provider career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what results look like in the hands of each provider. This may also be insufficient to get a good understanding of what your results are likely to look like or how many of these procedures That surgeon has actually done. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
