Hi, I have been dealing with lower neck fat my whole life, it has been more prominent in the last few years as I have gained weight. My GP thought it could be thyroid related however that was ruled out with bloods and an ultrasound, I was told it was genetic I really want to get this removed as I am very self conscious, is it possible to have lipo in that area or other treatments kindly help!!

Answer: Neck liposuction may not be helpful for fatty deposits low in the neck. In general, neck fat that may be amenable to removal with liposuction is best seen when somebody makes a double chin. Fat under the chin, that usually extends down to the first horizontal wrinkle in the neck, is best suited for removal with liposuction. Excess fat in the thyroid area, as you described, may best be treated with weight loss. I hope this is helpful, and thank you for your question. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Answer: Fat distribution in the neck and treatment options Most people don’t have thick layers of subcutaneous fat in the lower neck. Some individuals do.Those who do may be candidates for Liposuction in this area.Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approach mastery of Liposuction is in reality quite small.Poorly down, Liposuction that can leave people permanently disfigured. Some plastic surgeons do not have experience or not comfortable doing liposuction in this part of the neck.It can be treated successfully, but it requires finding as sufficiently experienced and talented provider.Doing that is more difficult than most people realize.I generally recommend people start the process by having multiple in person consultations with plastic surgeons in your community who seem to have a lot of Liposuction experience. Avoid virtual consultations whenever possible. In order to minimize the chance of having an undesirable outcome I recommend scheduling quite a few consultations before selecting a provider. There is in reality no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider.Sometimes it’s simply a matter of luck. You should, however Insist on vetting providers during each in person consultation to make sure you have a good understanding of that providers level of experience and skills for this procedure.During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had the same area treated with the same treatment.Highly experienced plastic surgeons should preferably have hundreds or preferably thousands of before, and after pictures to choose from.If providers don’t have any before and after pictures or make excuses to why they don’t have it before and after pictures then continue onto the next provider.Don’t schedule surgery until you get confirmation that this provider knows how to do this procedure well.
