Thank you for your question. The timing for addressing cartilage prominence in the middle vault depends significantly on the characteristics of the skin, as swelling can sometimes give a misleading impression of cartilage excess. • For relatively thin skin: A six to nine-month interval is generally suitable for adjustments to cartilage prominence. This is not done through rasping, as cartilage does not respond well to this technique, but rather through a closed approach to reduce the excess. • For thicker skin: It is usually better to wait for at least a year before attempting any adjustment. Swelling in thicker skin is more likely to produce temporary issues, and allowing more time ensures a more accurate assessment of the final contours.
**Title:** When Can a Remaining Bump Be Smoothed After Rhinoplasty? It’s not uncommon for small irregularities, such as a residual bump, to become noticeable during the healing process after rhinoplasty. If this is a minor cartilage bump, a simple rasping or trimming procedure may be an option. However, timing is crucial. In general, I recommend waiting at least **9-12 months** post-op before considering any revision work. This allows for full healing, swelling to resolve, and scar tissue to soften. Performing adjustments too soon can lead to unpredictable healing and may not provide the best long-term result. That said, every case is unique. If you’re concerned about a remaining bump, I suggest scheduling a follow-up consultation to assess your progress and determine the best approach.
Hi, It is better for you to consult with your facial plastic surgeon who can examine you and give you opinion based on examination. Often we wait for 1 year.
The earliest we have performed revision rhinoplasty on anybody is 6 months post-operative. Dorsal contouring should not be a major ordeal, however, it is important to wait for the majority of your nasal swelling to resolve before considering a second surgery, perhaps 6 to 12 months postop. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph
Most plastic surgeons would agree that waiting at least one year after surgery for result to mature and settle would be necessary before new procedure. This should be discussed with your surgeon. Good luck.
A photo of the issue would be helpful. The lower part of your bridge is generally cartilage and rasping is not the preferred method for correction. Correcting a residual small hump or dorsal imperfection is fairly straightforward. I might suggest waiting at least 9 months prior to intervention to see if any other changes occur to your nose that can be managed at the same time.
Thank you for your question. In general you should wait at least one year before having another rhinoplasty.
