Are there any contraindications for SculpSure for individuals with autoimmune disorders, specifically RA?

SculpSure is not recommended for people with autoimmune diseases, especially RA.  This is a policy set by the parent company, Cynosure.

There are no contraindications for RA patients desiring SculpSure treatment.  However, if one has had Gold treatment for RA than it would be contraindicated as Gold will deposit into fat cells.  

Sculpsure is safe for patients with RA or other inflammatory diseases.  The 1060nm wavelength of light laser only targets fat cells, and doesn't not target musculoskeletal cells or joints. Secondly, the laser only has a local (ie. not systemic like RA) effect.  The only caution with RA is that if you've ever been treated with gold injections (an old RA treatment) than it would be contraindicated, since the gold may deposit into your adipose tissue(fat).  

I understand your concern with something like SculpSure, which causes local inflammation, and having an inflammatory disease like RA.
However, there is no contraindication for people with RA to do SculpSure.The inflammatory response with SculpSure is local, as opposed to the disease of RA which is systemic.

i am not aware of any studies but there is no reason to expect that it would flare your RA since only fat cells are absorbing the laser energy. Avoid Sculpsure (or Picosure laser) if you have had gold therapy for your RA. always plan at least 2 sessions, 6 weeks apart.david berman md
