How do I get real pain meds for post-op pain management in Dominican Republic?

Thank you for your question. As a plastic surgeon in Dominican Republic let me explain the pain medication that we are allow to give our patient will never be the same as US or another country because our health department law. But we do have medications that help you to tolerate the pain, remember there is a difference between pain and discomfort. Ask to your doctor about another medication and let her/him know you don’t feel comfortable only taking the one she/he prescribed. Do not bring medication from the states and take it without your doctor knowledge, your doctor is responsable of you during and after surgery. Safety always first!

In Dominican Republic we have the pain pump medication ball. As to your doctor if for you is safe to have it and how you can get it from their office.

I'm sure your surgeon will prescribe/provide "real" pain medication. There is plenty of "real" pain medication in the the Dominican Republic, just like everywhere else in the world. I've never had a problem with post-op pain management. Most my patients only need pain medication for the first few days and always have some left over meds when they leave. Pain is not as bad as some patients might want you to believe. 
There must be some misunderstanding. Please contact your plastic surgeon, she will confirm that there is no need for you to bring any medication from home.

Hi, thanks for the questions.There is a gamma of analgesics for the treatment of pain, you do not have to worry about that, I'm sure your surgeon will tell you what you need and that it feels good to you as if he were at home. I would be very careful with having a surgery with a doctor that doesn't prescribe you proper medication, this could be a red flag.
There is a combination of medications you must take after the surgery which include painkillers, antibiotics, and vitamins to help the recovery. I would strongly recommend getting a second doctor to evaluate you before you go have your surgery, and see if this new doctor makes you feel more safe about the procedure. You should not look for a different doctor to prescribe the medications since the surgeon should be able to do the full job.
