What is the impact of a lip lift on lip lines and nasolabial folds?

I understand the primary reason for a lip lift (which i need and am considering). But would like to know the impact good or bad the procedure has on early vertical lines over top lip and nasal folds. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for your question! Its a very common one that I get during consultations as well. To be honest with you, it depends.  What it depends on is the location of the lip lines along the lip margin vs. the entire lip - as we design how much skin will be removed with we can help tailor and redrape that skin such that there is an improvement with them.  Sometimes you may also need some fine resurfacing, but cases vary from person to person.  Nasolabial folds likewise.  Specially the area where the folds connect with the alar groove can be significantly softened.  I hope some of this helps!

Thank you for your question. The Lip Lift procedure is performed to accentuate the size and/or shape of the upper lip by removing skin from the region underneath the nose. As the distance is decreased between the nose and the lip, the red lip is 'lifted'. There is typically little to no impact on the nasolabial folds or vertical lip lines.

Lip lip lifting is a very powerful way to make your mouth look more feminine, youthful, and attractive. The main goal is to create a better role of your upper lip and to show more of your upper teeth. We can certainly reduce some of the wrinkles of the upper lip because the amount of skin present is reduced. The effect on your nasal labial fold would also depend upon how we do the procedure. It is possible to reduce these folds at the same time and get an excellent Improvement.

Thank you for writing about the lip lift procedure. I perform subnasal lip lifts routinely. I have not seen any significant change in any existing vertical lip lines (a.k.a., lipstick bleed lines), good or bad. If you are looking to reduce these, your best option is laser resurfacing or a medium depth chemical peel. As for the nasolabial folds, there should be no change here either. Fillers or fat grating can be used to improve the contours in this area. Best of luck moving forward!

Excellent question. A long upper lip is usually related to the aging process. Although the sub-nasal lip lift is the ideal procedure to restore the appearance of the elongated upper lip into a more youthful pleasing one; it does not address vertical lines or nasal folds. The preferred candidate's only requirement is that you have a adequate nostril sill to allow the surgeon to camouflage the incision, otherwise a obvious incision might not be worth the trade off.A board certified plastic surgeon with experience in this procedure should be able to assess your need and make a good decision as to if you are a qualified candidate.Best of luck on your endeavors!S.Randolph Waldman, MD

Lip lift is a great surgery to improve your nose-face ratio, to augment your lips & enhance your face proportions. Typically it doesn't impact nasolabial folds, nor vertical  lines you're referring to. But to get 100% certainty that it's going to be your case as well, it'd be good to go for a face-to-face consult with a good plastic surgeon. Face subtleties can only be properly reviewed when we see a patient in person.

The lip lift can help shorten the distance between the nose and lips and also make the lips and mouth more beautiful. It generally tends to make the vertical lines better. The nasolabial folds should not change in a noticeable way. Consult a lip lift specialist if you are considering this procedure.
